π― Model Signature Analysis
Each model family exhibits different stylistic fingerprints β vocabulary choices, sentence rhythm, and structural patterns. These scores reflect how closely your text matches publicly documented characteristics of each family. They are heuristic estimates, not definitive classifications.

How the AI Detector Works
This tool is a heuristic, client-side analyser that computes over 30 stylometric, structural, and lexical signals in your browser β no text is ever sent to a server. It does not use any external AI APIs.
Core signals analysed
- Burstiness β variance in sentence length. Human writing tends to have high variance; AI-generated text often clusters around a mean.
- Perplexity proxy β vocabulary predictability using unigram and bigram frequency against a public English frequency list.
- Type-Token Ratio (TTR) β ratio of unique words to total words. AI output often shows unusually moderate TTR.
- Hapax ratio β words appearing only once. Human creative writing tends to use more hapax legomena.
- AI transition phrases β patterns such as "it is important to note", "furthermore", "in conclusion", "delve into".
- Punctuation profile β em-dash, semicolon, and colon density, which often differ between human and AI writing.
- Sentence-start variety β how many unique opening words appear across sentences.
- Latinate word ratio β proportion of words with Latin-derived suffixes (-tion, -ment, -ance).
- Contraction density β AI text tends to avoid contractions (don't, it's, we're) compared to human writing.
- Paragraph uniformity β variance in paragraph length and sentence counts per paragraph.
Model signature families
The detector compares each signal against patterns publicly documented for three AI model families. These are heuristic signatures, not vendor APIs, and should be treated as indicative not absolute:
- GPT-family signature β formal tone, high phrase-template density, moderate sentence-length variance, frequent "delve / tapestry / navigate" style tokens.
- Claude-family signature β longer median sentence length, richer qualifiers ("however", "moreover", "in particular"), low contraction density.
- Gemini-family signature β more list-friendly structure, "additionally/firstly/secondly" sequencing, direct address tone.
Confidence scoring
Each signal contributes a weighted score. Signals that agree (all pointing AI or all pointing human) yield higher confidence; signals that conflict reduce confidence. Final confidence is displayed alongside the AI probability.
What this tool is not
- It is not a trained neural network. It does not access GPT-4, Claude, or Gemini. It does not claim 100% accuracy.
- It cannot definitively prove authorship. Short texts, poetry, technical documentation, and second-language writing can all mislead any detector.
- It should be used as one input among many when assessing a document β never as the sole basis for accusation or disciplinary action.
Ethical use guidelines
AI detection is inherently probabilistic. False positives are common with legitimate human writing. We recommend using this tool to support human judgement, not replace it. See Wired's coverage for context on the limits of AI detectors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this AI detector free?
Yes β 100% free with no signup, no ads, and no character limits. All analysis runs in your browser, so your text never leaves your device.
How accurate is the AI detector?
No AI detector β including commercial tools β is 100% accurate. Our tool uses 30+ linguistic signals to estimate probability, and displays a confidence score so you can judge how certain the analysis is. Treat the result as one data point, not a definitive verdict.
Does it detect GPT-4, Claude, and Gemini?
It analyses stylistic patterns documented for these model families. It does not call any external API. The "model signature" scores indicate which family your text most closely resembles stylometrically.
Can this detect AI in short texts?
Short texts (under 150 words) produce unreliable results β this is true of every AI detector. We recommend a minimum of 200 words for a meaningful assessment.
Is my text stored on a server?
No. Your text is processed entirely in your browser. Analysis history is optionally saved to your own browser's local storage (never transmitted anywhere) and can be cleared at any time.
Can AI detectors be wrong?
Absolutely. False positives are well-documented for all detectors. Non-native English writers, technical writers, and anyone using a formal register may be incorrectly flagged. Always combine detection with context, draft history, and human judgement.
Do you provide bulk analysis?
Yes β switch to the Bulk Analysis tab in the sidebar. Paste multiple texts separated by a line containing only ---, and each block will be analysed independently.
Can I export the results?
Yes. Each analysis can be exported as JSON, TXT, or CSV. A "Copy Summary" button also lets you grab a text summary to paste into reports or emails.
